Family-friendly rights: key differences in Scotland and Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland: In England, Wales and Scotland, the parents of a child who dies on or after 6 April 2020 may be entitled to a period of parental bereavement leave with pay (see below). There are currently no corresponding provisions for Northern Ireland. However, on 15 June 2020, the Northern Ireland Government launched a consultation in relation to its intention to introduce parental bereavement leave and pay entitlements into Northern Ireland akin to the entitlements in force in Great Britain. In its response to the consultation, the Government confirmed that it will proceed with its intention to introduce parental bereavement leave and pay legislation.
