Future developments

Scotland: There are no future developments specific to Scotland.

Northern Ireland: In England, Wales and Scotland, the parents of a child who dies may be entitled to a period of parental bereavement leave with pay (see below). There are currently no corresponding provisions in force for Northern Ireland. However, on 1 June 2021, the Parental Bereavement (Leave and Pay) Bill was introduced into the Northern Ireland Assembly to legislate for parental bereavement leave and pay in Northern Ireland. The proposed legislation will introduce entitlements akin to those in force in Great Britain.
