Are there special rules for new or expectant mothers employed on night work?

An employee who is pregnant, breastfeeding or a new mother must be transferred from night work to day work if, in the opinion of their doctor or midwife, the night work is likely to pose a risk to their own health and safety or to that of their child. If there is no suitable day work available, the employer must suspend the employee from work on full pay until their doctor or midwife confirms that it is safe for them to resume their normal duties, or until they commence their maternity leave.
