Can an employee take a period of paid holiday in between their ordinary maternity leave and additional maternity leave?

An employee must start their period of additional maternity leave on the day after their period of ordinary maternity leave ends, so that the entire period of maternity leave of up to 52 weeks in total is consecutive. It is therefore not possible for an employee to take a period of holiday, whether paid or otherwise, in between ordinary maternity leave and additional maternity leave.
