Do part-time workers require an induction programme?
Under the Part-time Workers (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2000 (SI 2000/1551), part-time workers' contractual rights must be no less favourable than those of equivalent full-timers. The Regulations also stipulate that part-time workers must not be subjected to any detriment because of their part-time status. Therefore, they should not miss out on any training or induction programme as a result of their part-time hours. Wherever possible, employers should structure induction programmes to be at the most convenient times for the majority of staff, including part-timers, and run additional sessions if necessary.
