What can employers do to support employees who are required to pray during working hours?

Employers should consult employees on the steps that they could take to support employees who practise a religion. A prayer room can enable employees who practise a religion to feel comfortable about praying at work. To support employees of all religions, an employer could set up a multi-faith prayer room with removable objects, for example a screen to separate men and women. The employer could establish a user group to set the ground rules for the use of the room and prevent conflict arising. The employer could require employees to pray during their breaks, or could agree to rearrange employees' working hours to enable them to pray. Any alterations to working hours should not disadvantage employees who observe a different religion or who do not practise a religion.
