What further advice should a healthcare professional provide on a fit note where they tick the "may be fit for work" option?

If a healthcare professional advises that an employee "may be fit for work taking account of the following advice", they will be required to provide further information, including information on the functional effects of the employee's condition (see Getting the most out of the fit note: guidance for healthcare professionals).

The healthcare professional can indicate what adjustments could assist the employee to return to work by ticking one or more of four boxes, to suggest: a phased return, amended duties, altered hours and/or workplace adaptations. They can also include further suggestions and information in the comments section, for example a recommendation that the employee is referred to occupational health for an assessment.
