What is the Job Retention Bonus?

As part of its response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, the Government had planned to introduce a one-off bonus for employers that retained previously furloughed employees. Employers would have been eligible for a payment of £1,000 for every employee who had been furloughed at some point but who remained continuously employed until the end of January 2021.

As the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has been extended, and employers will be able to continue to furlough employees until 30 September 2021, the Job Retention Bonus will not be available as planned. The Government has said that "a retention incentive will be deployed at the appropriate time".
