Where the contract of a fixed-term employee who is a reservist is due to terminate while he or she is mobilised, does the employer have any obligation to re-employ him or her at the end of the period of mobilisation?

The obligation to reinstate a reservist does not cease just because a reservist was employed on a fixed-term contract. The fact that the reservist was employed on a fixed-term contract might be relevant when deciding whether or not it is reasonable and practicable for the employer to take him or her back into the same job, for example if he or she was employed for a one-off task such as updating a computer system and the task has been completed. However, there would still be an obligation on the employer to offer the reservist the most favourable alternative employment that is reasonable and practicable in the particular case.
