Which body or bodies are responsible for the enforcement of the smoke-free legislation?

The enforcement authorities responsible for the legislation are designated in the Smoke-free (Premises and Enforcement) Regulations 2006 (SI 2006/3368), and are the lower-tier local authorities and port health authorities.

Generally speaking, local councils are responsible for enforcing the legislation in England. In most areas the law will be enforced by environmental health officers or trading standards officers, and other officers designated and authorised by the local authority.
