In Mateen v EDS UK Ltd a Sheffield employment tribunal (Chair: R L L Williams) rules by a majority that asylum seekers cannot constitute a racial group nor can treatment of them be on racial grounds.

Soheila Mateen, an Iranian national of Turkish origin, who has been living and seeking asylum in the UK over the past five years, sought a place on EDS's two-year graduate training programme.
