A black worker who faced "a culture of prejudice" because of his race was unlawfully discriminated against when the council failed to upgrade his post to the level of equivalent posts occupied by white comparators, holds a London South employment tribunal (Chair: I MacInnes) in Afolabi v London Borough of Southwark.

Temilola Afolabi, who is of black African origin and an auditor in Southwark Council's social services department, appealed in November 1998 against his Hay grading of grade eight.
