Cartwright v G Clancey Ltd IRLR 355 EAT (0 other reports)
In June 1980, the respondents were faced with the possibility of having to dismiss employees on grounds of redundancy. Subsequently, an application was made under the Temporary Short-time Working Compensation scheme whereby, instead of the employees being made redundant, the work force, or part of it, was put on to short-time working. On days when employees were laid off, they were paid by the respondents who then recovered some of the money from the Government under the scheme.
