Carmichael and another v National Power plc [1998] IRLR 301 CA (0 other reports)

In Carmichael and another v National Power plc 27.3.98 Court of Appeal, the Court of Appeal holds that two women who accepted offers of "employment" as power station guides "on a casual as required basis" each entered into a "global" contract of employment with the stations' operators. The guides were under an obligation to attend at the power stations, when required to do so on reasonable notice, for the purpose of performing the duties for which they had been recruited and trained; and the operators had reciprocal obligations to offer the work which was available to the guides before anyone else, and to share that work among them on a fair basis.
