Equal pay: Holders of statutory judicial offices are "workers" in "employment" under EC law

This report relates to 1 case(s)

In Perceval-Price and others v Department of Economic Development and others 12.4.00 Northern Ireland Court of Appeal the Court of Appeal in Northern Ireland rules that holders of full-time judicial posts in tribunals are "workers" in "employment" for the purposes of the equal pay and sex discrimination provisions of European Community law. It follows that provisions in the relevant domestic legislation which state that holders of a statutory office are not to be regarded as employed under a contract of service are inconsistent with those provisions and must be disapplied.
