Fair Employment Act: "Political opinion" given broad meaning

In McKay v Northern Ireland Public Service Alliance, the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal holds that the protection against discrimination on grounds of "political opinion" in the Fair Employment (Northern Ireland) Act 1976 is not restricted to opinions relating solely to the political affairs of Northern Ireland. On this basis the Court overrules a decision of the Fair Employment Tribunal that it had no jurisdiction to consider a job applicant's complaint that he suffered unlawful discrimination by being refused a post on grounds of his left-wing political beliefs.
