A black rugby league player who was told by his coach that he would not be selected for the first team, was unlawfully discriminated against on grounds of race, rules a Leeds employment tribunal (Chair: D R Sneath) in Sterling v Leeds Rugby League Club and others.

At the beginning of the 2000 season, professional rugby league player, Paul Sterling, a winger with Leeds Rhinos, was told by first-team coach, Australian Dean Lance, that he was excluding him from the first-team squad.
