In HM Prison Service and others v Johnson [1997] IRLR 162, the EAT upholds an award of £21,000 for injury to feelings made by an industrial tribunal to a black prison officer who was subjected to a prolonged campaign of racial harassment and discrimination. It was not grossly or obviously out of line with the general range of personal injury awards, and the tribunal had not lost sight of the value of money in the real world.
