A union official who spent 50% of his working time on trade union activities was not selected for redundancy on trade union grounds, holds the Court of Appeal in O'Dea v ISC Chemicals Ltd. The employee in question was employed as, and enjoyed the terms and conditions of, a technical services operator but in fact worked for only half his time in a less skilled post.
