Additional paternity leave for adoptions from overseas comes into force in Northern Ireland

Implementation date: 5 October 2010

The Additional Paternity Leave (Adoptions from Overseas) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010 (SI 2010/296) entitle employees who adopt children from overseas to take up to 26 weeks' additional paternity leave in the first year after the child enters Northern Ireland. This has effect in relation to children who enter Northern Ireland on or after 3 April 2011. The right applies to employees who are spouses or partners of adopters, or, where a child is adopted jointly by two people, spouses or partners of the person taking adoption leave. The Regulations can be viewed on the UK legislation website.
