Anti-slavery statements introduced

Implementation date: 29 October 2015

The Modern Slavery Act 2015 (Commencement No.3 and Transitional Provision) Regulations 2015 (SI 2015/1816) bring into force s.54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

Section 54 requires large companies with a total turnover of at least £36 million per year, supplying goods or services, to publish information for each financial year showing what steps they have taken to ensure that there is no slavery or human trafficking in their business or supply chains. Organisations also have the option of stating that they have taken no such steps. The statement must be published on the company's website or, where the business does not have a website, it must provide a copy of the statement on request.

Companies with a financial year that ends before 31 March 2016 do not have to make a slavery and human trafficking statement in respect of the financial year 2015/16.

Statutory guidance is available to help interpret the specific details of the requirement.
