Asbestos (Prohibitions) (Amendment) Regulations 2003 come into force

Implementation date: 15 August 2003

The Regulations modify an existing ban on importing asbestos-containing materials, so that only those where the asbestos has been intentionally added are prohibited from being imported. The amendment affects naturally occurring minerals, including olivine, vermiculite, talc, dolomite, hermatite, iron ore, basalt, marble, chrome ore, magnetite and wollastonite. The Regulations can be viewed on the OPSI website.
