Business closures or restrictions on business activities due to coronavirus take effect

Implementation date: 5 November 2020

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) (No.4) Regulations 2020 (SI 2020/1200) provide that non-essential businesses must close to reduce the public health risks posed by the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in England. The Regulations set out which businesses must close, including drinking and eating establishments, entertainment venues, all indoor leisure and sports facilities, and beauty parlours. Some businesses can continue to operate but with restrictions imposed upon them, as set out in the legislation. Breach of these Regulations will be punishable by a fine.
