Education (School Teachers' Qualifications) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2009 come into force

Implementation date: 1 January 2010

The Regulations make several amendments to the Education (School Teachers' Qualifications) (England) Regulations 2003. The amendments include preventing overseas trained teachers from being awarded qualified teacher status (QTS) in England as a result of their recognition as a teacher in Scotland or Northern Ireland, without having taught in these countries; and allowing trainee teachers working in British service schools abroad to be awarded QTS on the strength of their teaching experience in those schools. The Regulations can be viewed on the OPSI website.
