Employment Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 comes into force

Implementation date: 22 March 2011

The Employment Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 (on the UK legislation website) amends the system for resolving disputes at work in Northern Ireland, where the statutory dispute resolution procedures still apply. The statutory discipline and dismissal procedures are retained, but the "overly complex" statutory grievance procedures are abolished. The Act also makes changes to the operation of industrial tribunals and the Fair Employment Tribunal and sets out the framework for the introduction of the right for employees to make a request to undertake study or training.
