Maternity and Parental Leave (Amendment) Regulations 2001 come into force

Implementation date: 10 January 2002

The Regulations revoke the restriction to parental leave that it is only exercisable in respect of children born or placed for adoption on or after 15 December 1999. The Regulations allow parents of children born or placed for adoption up to five years before that date the period up to 31 March 2005 in which to take parental leave (or up until the child's 18th birthday in the case of a child entitled to a disability living allowance). The Regulations also extend the period of leave to which a parent is entitled from 13 to 18 weeks in the case of a child who is entitled to a disability living allowance.
