Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessels (Health and Safety at Work) (Electromagnetic Fields) Regulations 2016 come into force

Implementation date: 21 November 2016

The Regulations implement for workers in the maritime sector the Electromagnetic Fields Directive (2013/35/EC), which sets out the minimum health and safety requirements for the exposure of workers to electromagnetic fields. The Regulations require employers to: assess and limit the levels of electromagnetic fields to which their workers are exposed; minimise the risks to workers arising from electromagnetic field exposure; provide information and training to employees likely to be exposed to electromagnetic fields; and provide medical examinations to employees experiencing high exposure to electromagnetic fields or experiencing health effects related to electromagnetic fields.
