National Minimum Wage Regulations 1999 (Amendment) (No 2) Regulations 2004 come into force

Implementation date: 23 September 2004

The Regulations increase the minimum hourly rate of the national minimum wage from £4.50 to £4.85. They also increase the rate to be paid to those (including workers aged between 18 and 21) who qualify for the national minimum wage at a different rate, from £3.80 to £4.10. In addition, the Regulations provide, for the first time, that workers aged below 18 who have ceased to be of compulsory school age qualify for the national minimum wage. The Regulations set an hourly rate of £3.00 for such workers. The Regulations can be viewed on the OPSI website.
