Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 comes into force
Implementation date: 8 January 2003
The Act amends the law relating to asylum
seekers and immigration procedures. Provisions affecting employers include
requirements that they supply information to the Home Office about the earnings
of any employee whom the Home Office reasonably suspects of having committed an
offence under the Asylum and Immigration Act 1999. The Home Office also has the
power to require employers to disclose 'compulsory records' held under the
Asylum and Immigration Act 1996, section 8 relating to any employee reasonably
suspected of having committed the offence of illegal entry under the
Immigration Act 1971, section 24.The Act can be viewed on the OPSI website.
