Pay caps for agency staff in the NHS introduced

Implementation date: 23 November 2015

Caps on the total amount NHS trusts and NHS foundation trusts in England can pay per hour for an agency worker, including pay, holiday pay, employer national insurance contributions, employer pension contributions, agency or administrative fees and any other fees or payments, are introduced. The hourly pay caps apply to all agency staff and bank staff, including nurses, midwives, doctors, dentists and other clinical and non-clinical staff. The proposed pay caps do not apply to "substantive" or permanent staff and staff employed by ambulance trusts.
