Pensions (2008 No.2 Act) (Commencement No.9) Order (Northern Ireland) 2012 and Pensions (2012 Act) (Commencement No.2) Order (Northern Ireland) 2012 come into force

Implementation date: 30 June 2012

The commencement orders implement various sections of the Pensions (No.2) Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 and the Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2012, to give effect to the introduction of pensions auto-enrolment. The duty to auto-enrol eligible jobholders into a qualifying workplace pension scheme applies in stages, starting with the largest employers from 1 October 2012, although they have the option of bringing their staging date forward to 1 July 2012. The safeguarding provisions requiring employers to protect individuals from unfair treatment in relation to pensions auto-enrolment apply from 30 June 2012.
