Police (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2009 come into force

Implementation date: 10 December 2009

The Regulations make amendments to a number of existing Regulations, including removal of the qualifying examinations as a means to obtain promotion to a rank above that of constable; provision enabling the chief constable to postpone the retirement of a special constable beyond the age of 60 years; and removing the requirement that assistant chief constables hold rank on a fixed term basis. The Regulations also add contributory employment and support allowance to the list of social security benefits to be deducted from police pay. The Regulations can be viewed on the OPSI website.
