Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) (Amendment) (No.2) Order (Northern Ireland) 2009 comes into force

Implementation date: 12 October 2009

The Order amends the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order (Northern Ireland) 1979 (SI 1979/195). It updates the circumstances in which a convicted person may be required to declare spent convictions, to include persons working in a regulated or controlled activity as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 (SI 2007/1351) and persons working in Access NI. It also adds categories to the list for which it is lawful to ask questions about spent convictions when assessing a person's suitability, including for the purposes of child minding and granting an application for registration as a social worker. The Order can be viewed on the OPSI website.
