Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 (Transitory Provisions) Order 2009 comes into force

Implementation date: 20 January 2009

The Order provides for the next stage in the transition to the new vetting system for staff working with children and vulnerable adults under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006. It means that ministers cease to take barring decisions on new referrals, which are instead transferred to the Independent Barring Board for consideration in accordance with the Act (although until the Act is brought fully into force, the consequences of any decision to bar are equivalent to those under the current arrangements). The Order can be viewed on the OPSI website.
