Social Security (State Pension and National Insurance Credits) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010 come into force

Implementation date: 6 April 2010

The Regulations amend statutory provisions pursuant to the equalisation of state pension provision for men and women and other reforms to state pensions. The amendments include: the phasing out of the automatic award of national insurance credits for men aged between 60 and 64; provision for a person who does not qualify for a full basic state pension to be entitled to a basic pension of one-30th of the weekly amount for each qualifying year accrued; and provision for someone with a deficient contribution record to be treated as entitled to a full basic pension if his or her former spouse or civil partner qualifies for a full basic pension under the single contribution condition.
