Nearly 900,000 public sector workers including teachers, doctors, police and prison officers will see their pay increase by up to 3.1%.
In an unexpected policy switch the government this afternoon exempted overseas NHS staff and care workers from paying a surcharge to use the health service.
The government has stated that non-EEA family members of any NHS, healthcare or social care worker who has died as a result of coronavirus, will receive immediate indefinite leave to remain, free of charge.
