Employers have been warned to prepare now for the Noise at Work Regulations, due to take effect in April 2006, which will reduce the noise levels to which employees can be exposed by almost half.

According to financial services company AXA, awards of damages for loss of hearing can vary between £4,000 and £18,000 or higher, depending on the severity of the disability suffered and the age of the person affected.
