Since starting in her new role as HR manager for the Confetti Media Group, Lorraine Duckett has had some challenges on her hands. Her first job was to design and issue an employee handbook that summarised the organisation’s policies, procedures and practices.
Lorraine also had to manage a TUPE situation where it was vital to comply with the law to avoid expensive mistakes. She says: “Although I understood the basic theory and law behind this process, I hadn’t come across it in practice.”
Lorraine had used XpertHR in a previous role and introduced it to the Confetti Media Group. This meant that, although writing the employee handbook was “a mammoth task”, she had XpertHR to hand and its “policies and ‘how to’ guidance … really helped”. Being able to copy and paste the policies meant that Lorraine simply had to tweak them to make them relevant to Confetti.
When it came to managing the TUPE situation, Lorraine listened to an XpertHR webinar on TUPE and read through the content on the site regarding the process, “both of which helped significantly and gave [me] a really good head start on what [I] needed to do and when”. Although she had support from a solicitor, Lorraine says that having the background information from XpertHR meant she didn’t have to pay the solicitor for general guidance, but only to deal with particular issues that arose.
Although Lorraine had used XpertHR before, when she started using it at Confetti, she found that the initial familiarisation training on the site that she received over the phone “really helped [me] to identify other areas of the site that [I] hadn’t previously needed but would be beneficial in [my] new role”.
“I use XpertHR almost every day,” says Lorraine, whether it’s to find some wording for a letter, get an update on recent case law or introduce a new policy. “I am also making more use of the line manager briefings to send to my line managers, and will use some of the Liveflo tools in the future.”
Lorraine concludes: “XpertHR works for me because it is easily accessible and I trust that it has up-to-date and reliable information.”
