Policy of the week

On 11 April 2024, the Government announced that it is not planning to introduce statutory domestic abuse leave - although the right to this type of leave is planned for Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, just 10.4% of respondents to our recent research on non-statutory family-related leave grant paid domestic abuse leave, with the median number of days' leave given being eight. Whether or not your organisation offers this type of leave, a Supporting staff experiencing domestic abuse policy can form a valuable part of an employer's gender equality initiatives, especially as the workplace can provide one of the few safe spaces where domestic abuse victims can draw on support.
