Emergency volunteering leave policy during the coronavirus outbreak

Original author: Stephen Simpson

When to use this model coronavirus/volunteering policy

Use this model HR policy to set out workers' entitlement to emergency volunteering leave during the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

Warning: This is a draft policy to assist HR professionals to prepare for the possible introduction of the Coronavirus Act 2020's emergency volunteering leave provisions, which are not in force. In Two monthly report on the status of the non-devolved provisions of the Coronavirus Act 2020: May 2020 (published on 29 May 2020), the Government states that it has "no plans" to bring the provisions into force because there is "sufficient current supply of staff and volunteers in the health and care system". However, the Government goes on to say that the emergency volunteering leave provisions "remain an option to use should there be subsequent, more aggressive waves".
