Policy on employing reservists

Author: Stephen Simpson

When to use this model reservists policy

Use this model policy to set out your organisation's support for employees who are reservists.

The Government is mobilising reservists to aid the military response to the coronavirus crisis. Employers that have reservists in their employment who are called out can refer to this policy for information on handling call-outs and reservists' rights during mobilisation.

On 15 June 2020, the Government confirmed that employers will have access to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme for reservists who return to work after a period of mobilisation. Employers can continue to claim under the scheme for reservists placed on furlough after 1 July 2020, provided that the reservist was on their payroll on or before 19 March 2020, they have previously claimed for another furloughed employee for at least 3 consecutive weeks between 1 March and 30 June 2020 and the reservist returned after 10 June 2020 from a period of mobilisation that began before 10 June 2020.
