Deal with a grievance that repeats an earlier complaint from the employee

Key points

  • Where an employee makes a grievance relating to an issue that they have already raised, the employer should establish if anything new is being raised.
  • If the grievance does not raise any new issues, in explaining that no further action will be taken, the employer may wish to refer the employee to any previous correspondence and the outcome of the original grievance.
  • Where the grievance raises new issues but in relation to the same matter as the previous complaint, the employer should consider dealing with it under the current grievance process or reopening the previous grievance if it has been closed.
