Apprenticeships are in-work training programmes under which the apprentice engages in on- and off-the-job learning and development activities that will lead to a work-based qualification.
Employers need to choose the right type of apprenticeship to suit their needs and will usually need to find a training provider.
Employers in England that pay the apprenticeship levy will be able to access levy funding for the apprenticeship. Different funding systems apply to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Non-levy paying employers can also receive government support.
The employer and apprentice must enter into an apprenticeship agreement that must comply with statutory requirements.
