Hold a formal performance management hearing
Key points
A formal performance management hearing should follow the structure of a disciplinary hearing.
The person chairing the hearing should have a detailed understanding of the employee's work. This is likely to be the employee's manager or head of department.
At the hearing, the employee should have an opportunity to comment on whether or not they accept that they are underperforming, and to put forward any explanation for failure to improve.
