Notify the Secretary of State of collective redundancy proposals
Key points
Employers that are proposing to dismiss as redundant 20 or more employees at one establishment within a period of 90 days or less are required to notify the Secretary of State of their collective redundancy proposals in writing.
The employer must give the notification before serving notice to terminate employees' contracts and within a specified time frame, which depends on how many employees are to be dismissed.
Failure to notify the Secretary of State of its collective redundancy proposals will render the employer liable to a criminal conviction, which attracts a fine.
