Ideally, the individual who is to chair the grievance appeal hearing should be someone senior to the person who made the original decision on the grievance. They should prepare for it carefully.
This will include reviewing the employee's appeal notice and the notes from the original grievance hearing.
The employee should be told in advance whether the appeal hearing will take the form of a rehearing or a review, to enable the employee to prepare for it.
