Recalculate an employee's statutory maternity pay entitlement where they have received a pay rise
Key points
If an employee receives a pay rise at any time between the start of their maternity pay calculation period and the end of their maternity leave, this will affect the calculation of their statutory maternity pay. The employer will have to recalculate the employee's weekly earnings for the purpose of the statutory maternity pay calculation, and backdate the increase in statutory maternity pay to the start of the maternity pay period.
A pay rise may also mean that an employee becomes retrospectively entitled to statutory maternity pay where their earnings were initially too low for them to receive statutory maternity pay.
