Respond to an employee's adoption leave/pay notification
Key points
To exercise their right to statutory adoption leave (and pay), an employee must give the employer official notice of their intention to take leave (and pay).
Once correctly notified of the date on which the employee intends to begin their adoption leave, the employer must respond in writing within a set time frame, informing the employee of the date on which their additional adoption leave will end.
A failure to respond within the required period will undermine the employer's right to prevent the employee from returning to work sooner than expected, or to discipline or dismiss the employee for failing to return to work on time.
