An employer that has invited employees to submit applications for voluntary redundancy should, once the final date for submission has passed, decide which applications to accept, if any.
If the employer has retained the right to turn down applications for voluntary redundancy, it is not obliged to make any or all of the volunteers redundant.
When making its decision, the employer should take into account the knowledge and skills that will be important for the future success of the organisation.
