When is hand-arm vibration hazardous?
Regular and frequent exposure to hand-arm vibration can result in permanent ill health effects. This is more likely when contact with a vibrating tool or work process is a regular part of a person's job. The early symptoms include any combination of: tingling and numbness of the fingers; loss of the ability to feel; loss of hand strength; and blanching of the fingers followed by pain and redness on recovery. Occasional exposure is unlikely to cause ill health.
