Government pledges £400 million "assistance" package

A "financial assistance" scheme is to be set up by the government to provide compensation for the thousands of workers who have lost pension benefits because their schemes have been wound up while underfunded. It will apply to defined-benefit schemes that have begun winding up before the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) is set up.
